Natural smoke exhaust
PROVEN FACTS IN CASE OF FIRE
A fire can quickly spread when three elements are gathered :
-
heat
-
combustible fuel
-
oxygen contained in the air
90 000 fires occur in France each year.
A fire spreads quickly with heat and flames.
The smoke denseness and toxicity are directly responsible for 98% of the deaths during a fire (panic caused by visibility loss, suffocation, …)
3 minutes can be enough to completely fill a room/space with smoke.

When a fire starts, it is therefore necessary to evacuate as quickly as possible :
-
smoke which limits visibility and leads people to panic
-
toxic gases
-
heat which can impair the building structure and/or create a “flash-over” phenomenon
GENERAL PRINCIPLES
In order to :
- facilitate people evacuation,
- facilitate emergency team intervention,
- prevent the fire from spreading,
The room/space natural smoke exhaust purpose is to evacuate as quickly as possible :
-smoke,
- toxic gases,
- heat
The room/space natural smoke exhaust is carried out by creating a sufficient sweeping out of the room/space to be freed from smoke with the help of the following joint devices:
- fresh air inputs located at the bottom of the room, and
- smoke and heat exhaust located on the upper part of the room.
Fresh air inputs and smoke exhausts must be simultaneously set.
|
|
| The natural smoke exhaust operating rules and the required geometric area calculations (fresh air inputs and smoke/heat exhaust) must comply with the regulations associated with the type of building. These rules may vary according to the surface, the type and the usage of the room/space. |
